International Trends and Services
International Trends and Services Facet is very proud of its transformational programming that offered opportunities to provide humanitarian support, advocacy and raised global awareness among young people and Links of the humanitarian needs of people of the African diaspora. We promoted the Links brand and reinforced friendships and partnerships with organizations that support our efforts. We continue to join Magnolia Chapter for a Friendship Month and service activity at Books for Africa. Donations of books by African-American authors were collected and members helped sort books at the Books for Africa. – ITS partnered with the Lowery Institute to present our main programming event named Africa: Forever Linked. The interactive experience in the life of African girls and women was very well attended by Links, friends and students of all ages. Attendees eagerly participated in the activities that included carrying water, pounding maize, watching videos on Malawi, HIV/AIDS testing, making market purchases and making difficult daily life choices. The reflections shared by special guest, Theresa Malila, from Malawi were a moving call to action. We are grateful for the work of the Lowery Institute to help make such a powerful event. It is also worthy to note that ITS continues as well to be a part of the umbrella programming at JCYMS.
